Project Description
LYCIA
Lycia lies in the area between Fethiye (Telmessos) and Antalya (Attaleia) in southwestern Turkey. The landscape is defined by a rugged shoreline with mountain ranges rising directly behind cutting the area off from central Anatolia and the neighboring lands of Caria to the north and Pamphylia to the east. The ancient Lycians were an enigmatic people, fierce and rugged as their landscape and were culturally distinct from the rest of the ancient world. Around twenty major sites remain today with the Lycians’ unusual funerary architecture dominating the breathtaking unspoiled land of Lycia.
