THE ANTI-TAURUS MOUNTAINS

Known as the Turkish Alps, this area hosts the highest mountains of the Central Taurus (Anti-Taurus) Mountain range spanning Kayseri, Niğde and Adana.  The name “Ala-Daglar” (Crimson-Mountains) comes from the rusty color of its hills in the sunset. The national park presents rich wildlife diversity, birds of prey, wild goats, boar, wolves, lynx, bears and is home to the magnificent Capra ibex.

The tallest mountain in the Anti Taurus range, and in central Anatolia, Mount Erciyes, is at 3,917 m. The ancient Greek geographer Strabo wrote that in his time the summit was never free from snow, and that those few who ascended it could see all the way to the Black Sea to the North and the Mediterranean to the south.
